Henderson Downtown Recreation Center
The Henderson Downtown Recreation Center is a place for area children to converge for supervised activities and educational programs. This urban infill project links "old" Henderson with the new City Hall and Civic Plaza. Conceived as a multi-level and multi-use facility, its exercise and recreation space open onto views of the municipal pool and the park beyond.
The project features the first suspended, elevated running track in the state of Nevada. Other recreational elements include a basketball court, racquetball facilities, climbing wall, workout and dance areas as well as a game room and lounge.
A historic display and salvaged brick in the snack bar memorialize the old field house that previously occupied the site. Daylighting and views throughout the facility create a bright and airy interior while contributing to lower energy costs and sustainable design.
